Starting from scratch
Can you really learn flamenco guitar online?
Yes, as long as you follow an ordered study plan. The problem with video is not the video itself, it is the mess: YouTube has hundreds of thousands of one-off lessons, from different teachers, with nothing linking them together.
At TUFLAMENCO.ES the 40 lessons are numbered from first to last, each one builds on the one before it, and you always know which lesson comes next. That is the difference between making progress and quitting after three months.
Do I need to know how to play guitar before I start?
No. Level 1 starts from scratch, with posture, the right hand and the basic flamenco techniques. If you already play another style you will move through the first lessons faster, but it is not a requirement: the method is built so that a complete beginner can follow it.
Do I need to read music or know music theory?
No. Every lesson is on video and is explained by watching the teacher's hands, so you can follow along without reading a single note.
Each lesson also comes with sheet music and tablature as a PDF, and tablature needs no music theory at all: it tells you which string and which fret each finger goes on.
Am I too old to start playing flamenco guitar?
There is no upper age limit. A good share of the people studying flamenco guitar online are adults between 30 and 65 who played when they were younger, or who always wanted to learn and never had the time.
Because you go at your own pace and can replay any video as often as you like, age stops being the deciding factor. Consistency is what counts.
Can I use a Spanish or classical guitar, or do I need a flamenco one?
You can start on a Spanish or classical guitar, it works fine for the first lessons. The one thing that matters is that it has nylon strings, not steel.
A flamenco guitar has a lower string action and a drier, more percussive sound, which you notice mostly in the strumming and the golpes, but it is not a purchase you need to make on day one.
Can I follow the course if I am left-handed?
Yes. With a left-handed guitar you can follow it without any trouble: the positions are the same, just mirrored. In the videos you see the teacher's hands as they are, so you will have to flip what you see in your head, exactly as you would in a face-to-face lesson with a right-handed teacher.
The method and the lessons
What does the TUFLAMENCO.ES flamenco guitar course include?
It includes 40 video lessons split across two levels and ten modules, with the sheet music and tablature for each lesson as a PDF, and from Level 2 onwards mp3 backing tracks with the rhythm of each palo so you can practise over it.
Everything sits on an online platform available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the videos carry English subtitles reviewed by a native speaker.
What do you learn in Level 1?
Level 1 is the beginner level and covers the right-hand techniques that hold up the whole of flamenco: arpeggio up and down, abanico strumming, thumb, alzapúa, three-finger strumming and the chord wheel.
It is rounded out with the theory of binary compás and the twelve-beat compás, por arriba and por medio harmony, and how chords are built in Do shape. By the end of it you can play a full tango and a full soleá, with their falsetas.
Which flamenco palos are covered in Level 2?
Level 2 works through the main palos of flamenco, grouped by type of compás: rumba, tientos, tangos, taranto, farruca and colombiana in four; fandangos de Huelva and abandolaos in three; tanguillo de Cádiz and tanguillo flamenco in six-eight; soleá, bulería por soleá, alegrías de Cádiz, guajiras and bulerías in the amalgam compás; seguiriyas; and the free styles with no compás, which are taranta, malagueña and granaína.
For each palo you get the compás and its most characteristic falsetas, along with the matching technique exercises.
How much do I need to practise each day?
Half an hour a day, used well, is enough to make progress. Thirty minutes every day beats three hours in one go on a Saturday: the flamenco right hand is built through daily repetition, not marathons.
Since the lessons are recorded and your access is for life, you set the pace.
How long will it take me to play a full palo?
It depends on how consistent you are, but with daily practice Level 1 takes a few months, and by the end of it you are playing a tango and a soleá with their falsetas.
This is not a play-flamenco-in-a-weekend course. It is a study plan that takes you from zero to knowing the main palos of flamenco.
Are sheet music and tablature included?
Yes, every lesson comes with downloadable sheet music and tablature. From Level 2 onwards you also get mp3 backing tracks with the rhythm of each palo, so you practise with the compás running instead of playing in a vacuum.
Why pay for a course when YouTube has free lessons?
Because of the order. There are very good one-off lessons on YouTube, but each is by a different teacher with a different approach, and nobody tells you what comes first and what comes next.
You lose a lot of time jumping from channel to channel, and that is the most common reason people give up. Here you pay once for a closed path, from the first lesson to the last, made by the same teachers.
Who are the teachers?
The method was created by Giacomo Paris and Miguel Ángel Moral Reyes, both of whom hold a higher degree in flamenco guitar: Giacomo from the Granada Conservatory and Miguel Ángel from the one in Jaén.

How much does the TUFLAMENCO.ES flamenco guitar course cost?
The full course costs 60 € plus tax, as a single payment. In Spain, with 21 % VAT, that comes to 72.60 €.
If you buy from another country, Hotmart, which handles the payment, shows the amount converted into your currency and applies whatever tax is due, so the exact figure depends on where you are.
How does the free Level 1 offer work?
For those 60 € you buy Level 2 and Level 1 comes free. You pay once and you keep both complete levels, all 40 lessons and all the materials.

Can I buy the course from outside Spain?

Are the lessons available in English?
The lessons are taught in Spanish and every video carries English subtitles, translated and checked by a native speaker. This website is available in Spanish and English too.
How long do I have access to the lessons?
Access is for life, with no expiry date. On top of that, any lessons added later to Levels 1 and 2 reach you at no extra cost.
Which devices can I watch the lessons on?
On your phone, tablet, computer and Smart TV. All you need is an internet connection and your login details, and the platform is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Support and what comes next
Can I ask a teacher questions?

Can I take live lessons with a teacher?
Yes, you can take live lessons with the teachers if you want to, but they are not included in the course price: you book and pay for them separately, whenever you need them.

Does the course come with a certificate or diploma?
No, TUFLAMENCO.ES does not issue a certificate or any official qualification. It is a study method for learning to play, not accredited education.
What happens when I finish both levels?
By the end of both levels you know the main palos of flamenco and their most characteristic falsetas, and you have a solid base to carry on by yourself or to work on repertoire in live lessons with a teacher.
Your access to the lessons stays with you, so you can go back to any module whenever you want to review.
